International School for Medical Marijuana Opens on August 30th with Online Classes and Scholarship Opportunities
Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) June, 2010 -- The International School of Medical Marijuana (ISSM) will open its online ‘doors’ at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 30th with an instructional video that focuses on grow room design and set up. The student body will be made up of patients with debilitating illnesses, caregivers, and individuals interested in the burgeoning field of medical marijuana and medical marijuana dispensaries. No special software or skills are required, just a computer with an Internet connection.
“Registration is open to students from countries around the world as well as U.S. students from states that have medical marijuana laws in place,” explains Matthew McKenzie, ISMM founder and spokesperson. At this time those states are Alaska, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
To enroll, students must certify that they are at least 18 years of age and are either medical marijuana patients or want to become caregivers for other medical marijuana patients.
From Seed to Weed to Those in Need
The International School of Medical Marijuana’s 20-week course of study takes students on a day-by-day learning experience through the entire life cycle of a medical marijuana garden. New classes are posted each weekday at 4:00 p.m. and the recorded sessions are available in an archive for students to study and review at their convenience. On Saturdays at 2:00 p.m., students are invited to participate in a live online webinar to review the week’s course load. “We will have special guest speakers to go over such subjects as sourcing seeds, opening a dispensary, and state and national laws governing the growth of medical marijuana,” explains McKenzie.
The first week is dedicated to grow room design and set up, odor control, seed germination, and starting seedlings and clones. “Students will also be introduced to important topics concerning hydroponics and organic growing to round out their knowledge and education,” reports McKenzie.
As plants grow and mature, students will learn about nutrition, feeding schedules pest and disease control, and preventative maintenance. “The course is based on my own successful experience as a grower for more than a decade,” says McKenzie. “And while the course is advanced, the technique is easy to learn, and replicate.”
The final weeks of the course will be devoted to harvesting, trimming, and curing. Since many patients are unable to tolerate the smoke of burning marijuana, students will also learn about cannabutter, medibles, and cooking with cannabis.
“All of the medical marijuana that I grow during the ISMM course is donated to cancer patients through PinkLeaf.org,” reports McKenzie. Pink Leaf is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to provide medical marijuana to the seriously ill at no charge.
Scholarships Available
“The ISMM is offering twelve ‘full ride’ scholarships for our inaugural class of 2010,” reports McKenzie. Those interested may use an online scholarship application form and are asked to answer the question “Why would you be the ideal candidate for a scholarship?”
“My personal goal is to be able to make a living doing what I love to do and to be able to help people with my gift,” says McKenzie candidly. “The goal of the ISMM program is to teach students exactly what is required to grow the top quality medical marijuana that many are now legally permitted to have for their own use and that we believe will be in-demand in the months and years ahead.”
McKenzie notes that the ISMM supports the Control and Tax Cannabis initiative, a California legislative measure to legalize marijuana and allow it to be sold and taxed that will go before California voters in November 2010. Supporters of the initiative collected 523,531 valid signatures, more than the 433,971 names required for it to be placed on the ballot.
